ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY FLOORING

Cork

Cork comes from the bark of the oak tree indigenous to Spain and Portugal. Every eight to ten years the bark of the cork tree is stripped from the trunks and ground into granules that are compressed with special glues at high pressure into sheets. By burning the cork before compression and varying the granule size, creates the different colors and patterns. Cork flooring provides natural noise insulation because of the over 100 million air cells or pockets per cubic inch of cork. These built in shock and sound absorbers make cork an excellent sound deadening material.

Cork flooring is also hypoallergenic; this makes it a wonderful choice for people with allergies or a commercial application. The suberin in cork is a natural insect repellent that is not only resistant to many types of insects and termites, but it is also resistant to the development of microbes. With cork's thermal efficiency the climate of your floor is consistent and the polyurethane finish makes it easy to maintain.

Bamboo

Bamboo is quickly being recognized as one of the world’s great eco-friendly resources and a superb flooring material. Bamboo is actually a type of grass, not a tree, each individual bamboo plant being so resilient that harvesting does not deter further growth. A mature bamboo plant is ready to be harvested again after a six to eight years growing cycle, making bamboo a very renewable resource.

Both extraordinarily beautiful as well as durable, bamboo flooring stands as a more inexpensive alternative to traditional hardwood. Many bamboo floors are actually harder and stronger than traditional hardwood like Oak.
